Hyperlinks disappear with "no fill" on PPT 2003 viewer

I have a presentation with hyperlinks that are empty but sized to fit over
textbox text so that it appears you are clicking on the text when in fact you
are clicking on a hyperlink that is floating above the text (someone else did
this).

When printing slide handouts, I found that these hovering hyperlinks would
appear yellow and completely block out the text. I found that the fill color
was set and semi-transparent was checked. To solve this problem, I just
changed the fill color to "no fill" and now the handouts print just fine.

However, since I have made that change, I have now run into another problem.
When viewing the presentation in PP 2003 viewer, these empty, no-fill,
hyperlinks shrink almost to the point of non-existence. At first I thought
they disappeared completely, but I realize now that if I move my mouse slowly
over the hyperlink area, there is a small area right at the bottom where my
mouse turns into a finger. However, it is really, really, small, almost like
the hyperlink area has been collapsed vertically.

This problem does not appear with a fully updated version of PP 2003 full
version.

The standard trick to resolve this is to include a fill and to set the
fill to 99% transparent. No fill and 100% transparent fills have this
problem.
