Hyperlink changes when emailed

Hyperlinks that I've added to Word docs which get emailed lose the right
path. I've tried using the "look in" function as well as typing in the whole
path from Server to File. However when I email the document, the hyperlink
shows a local "C" setting rather than the path I set up. I'm on Office 2003,
SP2.

It would help having a complete example (before and after)...

The one thing that comes to mind is the "Update links when saving" (or something
like that) in Tools/Options/General/Web options/Files. If it's on, try turning
it off and see if that makes a difference.
