Hyperlink Browse Dialog Problem

G

Graham Taylor

Just upgraded to MS FrontPage 2003, and I'm having a problem creating
hyperlinks. If I select 'Hyperlink' from the context menu the hyperlink
dialog box comes up and the file list only show the open file. In 2002 I
got a complete list of files in the folder.

How do I change this so that I can see a complete list of files?

Any help appreciated.

Have you opened your web? File > Open > Web.

This might solve the problem......

I've mentioned this since you are 'manipulating' files within that web, i.e.
hyperlinking to them (the closed files that is, the ones you want to see in
the list), and for everything (anything) you want to happen within a
frontpage site (or web as FP2002 and earlier calls them) generally requires
the web to be open first.

Yes, I have opened the web. The only files which appear in the dialog box
are those which are actually open for editing in FrontPage.

Cheers,
Graham

When this happen, hit F5 and/or Tools | Recalculate Hyperlinks and see if that helps.

The below step may cure your problem of the hyperlink dialog not showing your site
- please post back if it does

In Windows Explorer Find and delete the hidden *.web web cache files for the local and remote webs you are having the problems with
(or delete all *.web)
( Usually in %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache )

1) Open your FP web using File Open site and browsing to Network Places for your site
2) Select the site (double click the site in Network Places) but Do Not Open it
This will get you the File selection dialog (where you can't probably can't see any of the folders or subwebs in the site)
3) On the same line as "Look In" you will see a series of Icons, Select the Folder Icon for Created New Folder (or use [Alt][5])
(Make sure the New Folder Dialog has Documents selected under: Folder Contains)
4) Enter a folder name (that you are sure is not in your current web - say: fixit) and OK
5) Use the Up One Folder Icon, or [Alt][2], and select Open (your root web)
(your web folders should have shown you all your folders including the newly created one)
6) Run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks
7) Open a page, select some text, and try to insert a Hyperlink to see if your web folder view is repaired (if your web is not
displayed in Look In, browse to it under Network Places)
(Delete the new folder created above)

| Thanks - but that doesn't change it. Still no list of files.

Getting closer to the problem, I think. I get as far as step 4, and it
won't let me create a new folder -
"You do not have permission to access this Web Folder location"
followed by
"You do not have permission to access this Network Place location"
so it would seem its something to do with permissions.

This started to happen when my workstation crashed, and after a new hard
disk was installed I was given FP 2003 instead of 2002. Nothing else has
changed. We haven't modified the server in any way. By the way, if I open
the website through my mapped drive to the web server instead of through
"Open Site", everything is ok.

Cheers,
Graham

I am having this exact same problem with the same resolution as Graham. I
have even given the anonymous user Full Control of all the files and folders
in the site and still get the permissions error. It would appear that this
bug it quite wide spread and causing a lot of people problems. Is there any
definitive fix out there?
