Hyper Threading??

SmokeyT.

This should be a easy one. Does windows 2000 support hyper
threading? My system only shows 2 processors, instead of
four. Any help is appreciated.

Yes and no. Windows 2000 will use all of the processors if licensed. Problem
is that Windows 2000 does not know how to differentiate between logical and
physical CPUs. So, it counts on hyperthreading enabled CPU as two CPUs.
You'll need a server OS to use both CPUs in hyperthreading mode, or else
you'll have to upgrade to XP.

Please help satisfy my curiosity ... how/why would XP (Pro, I assume) be a
better solution than Windows 2000?
Would XP Pro, with its maximum of 2 processors, see the dual HTT processors
as four logical processors?

So will Windows 2000 Pro be able to run better on my 3.06
GHz w/HT? Or would I need to go to XP Pro to see the best
results?
