I've been using a MS wireless base station (model MN-500) with a wireless adapter (model MN-510) to allow my husbands laptop to access our internet service via a home network for two years now. All of a sudden, it has quit working. The adapter is used with an IBM Laptop ThinkPad running XP Pro. The little adapter just sits there with one of it's two green lights blinking. The message I get when I try to repair, after having reset the modem, etc., is that it isn't compatible with the current version of WindowsXP Pro and I need to check with the sys administrator (me, I guess ) I've tried removing it, then re attaching.
Has something recently changed in WindowsXP that would cause this behavior? Is this MS equipment too old now? Is there new hardware I can buy that will set itself up automatically to create a home network and allow access to the internet via our DSL connection? I've used a personal PC since 1990 but I have to admit setting up a home network can be a pain (probably because I don't know what I'm doing!)
My husband is having a fit because his laptop won't connect to the internet. I'm usually able to work through problems but I've read the MS Broadband Networking info on line until I'm cross-eyed and still don't know what to do. Yikes, I need help.
