Often when trying to "hurry up" the startup of WinXP Pro
on my IBM ThinkPad Laptop I am left with a box in the
foreground of the screen, that I cannot get rid of,
without loggin off then logging on again.
What I do is: as the machine is starting up, and before
everything is completely running ( in the task bar) I
click on "Start" then connections. The menu come up with
a box with "(Empty)" in it. This is the box I can't get
rid of. I have tried right clicking on the desktop and
clicking refresh but it doesn't go away.

Any help?

DON'T DO THAT!

Seriously, Explorer has perhaps not yet loaded when you try opening
[Network] Connections. The box disappears after opening any other
window over it? Check Event View logs at boot time to see if this might
be a dialog associated with a red system or application error, perhaps a
needed service is not loading automatically, and correct that. It might
not be possible to do what you want (whatever it is) and you'll simply
have to wait longer.

Since loading SP2 (using MS Firewall) startup has been
slower. I use ADSL broadband and click on the connection
too early. Even after waiting for a long time, and
finally getting the correct entries in the connection
menu, the dissasociated "empty" menu does not go away.
