shows this message:

Thank you for your interest in Windows Update

Windows Update is the online extension of Windows that helps you get the
most out of your computer.

The latest version of Windows Update is available on computers that are
running Microsoft Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Millennium
Edition, Windows 2000 (except Windows 2000 Datacenter Server), Windows XP,
and the Windows Server 2003 family.

What's going on with the Windows Update web site?

If you still have problems getting into the site this fix worked for me: I
had the same problem for a while try this it worked for me: go to control
panel, open internet options, click the security tab, click trusted sites at
the top, click the sites button right below that, uncheck the require server
verification option at the bottom, and add these 4 sites:
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
https://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://www.download.windowsupdate.com
click ok then ok to close internet options. yes I know the first 2 addresses
look the same but one is http and the other is https. Thanks to the person
who provided this solution as I still can't remember who it was.
