huge archives in Windows directory

Hi,

My XP C:\Windows directory has 4 huge hidden archives named E, O, S, and Y,
without any extension.
Each of them is 1,6 Gb big.
I tried to move them to another drive, but the system doesn't allow.
I tried to apply the "attrib -h" DOS command to them, but I receive the
message:
"Not resetting system file - C:\WINDOWS\E"

What are they for?
Can I safely delete them? How to do it?
Thanks,

What is the malware/virus status of the machine? If you think it is clean,
what programs (and versions) did you use to determine this?

Be sure the computer is clean:
