HTTP quit working, all other protocols OK (HTTPS, FTP, etc)

Any idea why HTTP would not work when other protocols (eg. https, ftp) and
other network apps (skype, messenger, remote desktop) are all working OK?

It was working earlier today. Then I ...
.... installed DynDNS updater(a Windows service to make sure my dyndns
account stays registered)
.... uninstalled an old security bundle (firewall, anti-spyware, etc)
supplied by ISP
.... attempted to install the ISP's new security bundle, which failed trying
to download the main components (maybe using HTTP to do so, so one of the
previous steps is the likely cultprit)
.... stopped some services that seemed surplus to requirements (eg.
bluetooth, infrared monitor, remote registry, ...

I have tried turning the firewall off
I have tried turning DynDNS updater off
I have tried browsing with Internet Explorer 6 and Firefox
I have tried turning all the services I disabled back on

For completeness of info: Windows XP Pro SP2 with all automatic updates
applied. IE7 not installed.

Thanks in advance

The "uninstalled old security bundle" step could open the system to a
corrupted Winsock2 stack. LSP-Fix may fix the problem:

John,
Thanks for your input. Not sure if whether it was uninstalling all security
packages or LSP-Fix that fixed my problem but my HTTP is working again now.
Thanks for taking the time to respond.
