http 500 web page

after installing critical updates (which include 832894 and/or 831814 hotfix
- neither of which i find in my add/remove list) I can no longer navigate
beyond sign-in on my hotmail account or my shopping site.
support at this address offered a solution which does not work

i follow the links and am instructed to "download this"
i do and it says i must have sp1 for it to work. i have sp4 - can't download
sp1
any suggestions?
