Hello, group. Frequently getting an error message (HTTP 403 forbidden -- you
are not authorized to view this page) when clicking on links in some Web
sites. It happened again this morning when trying to view a company's
on-line new releases. And these are always links that companies want people
to view -- they're not restricted. ME IE6 SP1 DSL. No other problems being
experienced, except ultra-slow opening of the first home page when I open my
browser. Any tips would be appreciated. Joe Starin

Try the following and see if it helps.

It is also possible that you have some malware or spyware on your system
causing the problem. You might try the following as well:

Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Be sure to run CWShredder, Ad-aware and Spybot.
Also be sure to use the HijackThis. Please do not post your log to this
newsgroup, but the the SpywareInfo or the Aumha HiJackThis forums
http://forum.aumha.org/viewforum.php?f=30, to allow the experts there to
evaluate your log and advise you of the necessary steps to clean your
system.

CAUTION!!!!! Before you try to remove spyware using any of the programs
below, download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

Also, get a copy of WINSOCKFIX available at:
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html

Hope this helps

Hi, Jan II:

Still getting shut out of a few Web sites with the HTTP 403 forbidden
message, although a Microsoft KB article acknowledges the error as a
problem. I have IE6 SP1 as updated as it can be. I'm clear of spyware and
viruses (Ad-aware, SpyBot, AV, Firewall). Would like to run the McAfee
Stinger but cannot DL recent version because of the (you guessed it) 403
error message. CWShredder never seems to have any upgrades anymore.

I'll keep plugging away. Not a big problem, but my ME machine has suddenly
slowed down considerably -- need a few reboots during the day to keep it
from grinding to a halt. Odd, considering how fanatical I am with PC
maintenance. Thanks for your help.

Joe
