HTML comes in as Plain Text

I receive emails from a source who emails many others the same email and uses
HTML. Everyone else receives theirs in HTML, but mine comes in Plain text.
It is hard to read the email with all the codes showing. Several techs have
checked my setup and everything looks okay. Any suggestions?

I too am having this problem, but not with all my emails. Mostly with one
sender but sometimes the same sender emails are fine and in HTML. I too need
suggestions.

Thank you

Your email sending me to a link was not helpful. The email came in plain
text with no link available. I typed the link very carefully and triple
checked and still wouldn't get me to your answer. I will check email scanner
again. I did that last week, but evidently the "fix" did not work on your
email.

Diane didn't send you a link to read.

Uninstall your AV program completely, then perform a custom reinstall,
leaving out the mail scanning feature.

this is usually a problem with the mail server or an antivirus
email scanner.

I have the same problem, and in my case, this does not seem to be
the situation.

I have 2 systems, both running WIN XP Pro SP2 side-by-side. On sys
1, Outlook 2007 is my mail package. On this system, I have the HTML
coming in as plain text problem for 2 newsletters I receive
regularly.

On sys 2, Outlook Express 6 is my mail package. I have a different
email address for this system, but I subscribe to to he same 2
newsletters as on system 1. These come in as HTML and are displayed
as such.

From Sys 1, I have sent inquiries to these 2 newsletters asking if
they, by some chance, were sending plain text to the email address
on Sys 1, but their reply was that they don't send out plain text in
their newsletters.

Both systems come through the same email server, each system has the
exact same antivirus scanners (both with the same dictionary). At
my home network, I do not use firewalls at the individual system
level, but all firewall protection is done on a Netgear Prosafe
802.11G VPN Firewall router. I further have a Linksys WRT54G
Wireless router for the systems mentioned above. The firewall is
turned OFF in the WRT54G - it acts solely as a wireless access
point. I have a secure network (I believe, knock on wood), as I
have not ever been penetated.

I have tried all the suggestions I have found on the Outlook groups
on the microsoft.public seever. So what else should I look for?

At this oint, I think Outlook 2007 has out-smarted itself,
security-wise into non-functionality.

But they don't, since the scanner that integrates with Outlook Express is
completely different than the scanner that integrates with Outlook.

Have you tried uninstalling the AV program completely and then reinstalling
it without the mail scanner?

I use AVG anti-virus on both systems, with email scanning on. The only
difference is that the Outlook machine's AVG emailscanner reports a
plug-in for Microsoft Outlook. Is this what you mean ?

I was unaware that OUTLOOK had an anti-virus scanner embedded within
it. Is this what you are telling me ? If it does not have its own
antivirus protection, where do I get my protection.

Please explain to me so I can get this cleared up in my mind.

As for uninstalling and re-installing, I can't do it during the week,
but I will try it this weekend. Would turning OFF the AVG email
scanner work instead ?

Thanks for your help

Yes, that's the mail scanner for Outlook.

You get the protection from the rest of AVG that is still running anfd the
fact that you KNOW you shouldn't be opening any attachments in email unless
you specifically requested them from the sender and even then only after
you've saved them to your hard drive so they can be scanned.

Even if you don't save them first, though, you're still protected. An
attachment can't be opened until AFTER it has been written to disk. Outlook
does that for you when you double-click the attachment. At that point, AVG
will scan it. You don't have to scan it while it comes in.

I took this past weekend to do some testing.

I went to AVG, opened up email protection, turned OFF the incoming
email scanning, and I am now receiving HTML as HTML.

I wonder what AVG does to the incoming emails ?

At any rate, Thanks for ytour assistance.

Did you have AVG's option to certify the incoming mail, where it adds a
trailer stating that the message is virus-free? That alters the message.

Anyway, I'm glad you solved it.
