My PC has suddenly decided it cannot open these files,
stating they are not Windows 32 applications.
I have checked "Allow active content..in files" but no
result. Viewing File Types in Folder Options, HTM
files are linked to IE icon, but no link appears for HTML.
All suggestions much appreciated,

Jim.

what if you create a simple test html or html file like this
- use notepad to create atst.htm with the following content
<html>
it worked
</html>
if you can open the atst.htm by double-clicking the file, then no problem
with file type nor IE.

Otherwise it could be some content/script in your other files or corruption
with ie

The HTM test file would not open.
However, the Doug Knox link from MVP TaurArian
cured the problem after a reboot.
Thanks to you both.

Jim.
