HP Software Upgrade Problem

J

John Leddy

I was automatically notified by HP that there is an upgrade to their
software for my psc printer. When I try to install the upgrade, it
continually fails to install. The upgrade number is: 3.0.5.001

BTW - the printer works fine without the upgrade............Any suggestions?

Because the printer is an old one, (hp psc 1350), I purchased the
software/driver disc from HP which is more up-to-date than the original
disc. The Version is 4.2.0

I have automatic upgrades selected and this one mentioned came in.

Although the printer is old, it meets my needs and works fine.

Yeah ... Don't bother to install the "upgrade" unless you have troubles.
Also, quite often so-called "notification" by people like HP or others
that you need to upgrade is just somebody trying to get people to load
their virus or Trojan-Horse program. Check on HP's own website, *NOT*
the one pointed-to by the so-called "notification" to see if this is
real or some scam.

Generally HP and companies like that almost never EVER send out
notifications of "upgrades". I personally would be VERY suspicious of
such a thing. Usually, if upgrades are really needed, people having
problems go to the supporting company themselves and download later
drivers.

Quite possibly what you've done by even *trying* to install this
supposed "upgrade" is actually install a virus or other malicious
program on your system.

Good luck in removing it, if so.

I occasionally get update notices from HP for my laptop
and PDA. When you click on the link it takes you to the
HP website for further info and the download files. Of
course I have previously requested this update service.

That's exactly what I did........previously requested this update service.
About once a week I get a message from HP about this update and it "fails"
to install! It doesn't seem to cause a problem, but why won't it
install............I guess it's a mystery!

Do you update directly from the site, or download the file, then run
it from your HD? The latter is the preferrable way to install updates.

I run the updates directly from the site. I do the same thing with
Microsoft updates and have never had a problem.

I just tried again manually to try and get the update from HP....same
thing.....failed to download...try again later. This update must be a fluke
because the printer works fine. Thanx for trying to help!

try UN installing the driver then reinstall, finally try the update

I just tried the HP check from their website and got the following message:

"You are using the latest driver!
"A check of your driver settings shows no problems"

..
Chalk it up to a mystery!
