HP Scanjet 4890

I have bought this product in november 2006, and shortly after I had to ask
for a replacement as the product did not work correctly in the scannning
mode. Now to my surprise - after having bought and changed to Vista on my HP
computer - that I cannot get the software to my Scanjet 4890, which should be
the newest model from HP. What a lousy company.
You can ofcourse use the windows scanning program but it is very slow.
Has anybody a solution to this problem.??

The basic driver is on the website at:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?os=2093&softwa
reitem=sj-46327-2&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=446436&lang=en

and there it says there will be a fully featured one:

Release Date: 2007-02-05 Version: 1.1

Description

This driver makes it possible to use the basic functions of the scanner
and can be used until the full solution is available. The full feature
driver will be available for your HP scanner as soon as possible.

So you are better off than many.

If you need help in installing and getting it working try asking again.

Hi,
I am in a same situation with my HPscanjet4570C
The driver which HP presents is only to be able that Vista sees the Scanner
(and that is ok)
HP told me to use fotogallery, or Paint all this doesn't work.

I tried even a third scanner program Ifranview but this doesn't work because
Twain is not available.
This is working fine by my friend but...they are not using Vista.

So there is here clearly a double problem:
-HP let stick everybody with there scanner and they are not intended to do
anything on it.
-Why is the Twain option not working? Vista related or also HP???

Who can give some advice on TWAIN?

Regards
Huib

No I am not, but thank you anyway. HP only has the basic in 64 bits version,
which is stupid as most only have the 32 bit version of Vista, so this update
has no value for me. Your link did not function, sorry. Nils

Not according to their website:

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Enhancements

Adds Windows Vista support <<------
Adds 64-bit support

Step 2: Does your system meet the following?

Operating system(s): Microsoft Windows Vista, Microsoft Windows
Vista (64-bit)

Download file size: 2.76M

System Requirements

Recommended: Uninstall any previous software/driver for your scanner.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry that URL did not work for you but you can either paste the two
lines into the address box or locate your printer and its files on the
HP website which is what I did.

On my system that long URL works if you click on the second line rather
than on the first.

Either way if you have not tried that driver I suggest you do -- I
don't know where you saw that it is only for VISTA 64.

Do please pay attention to the installation instructions there,
especially:

Connect the scanner to the PC after installing the driver.

since a lot of people, including me have not done it this way round and
it either fails or gets unnecessarily complicated.

If all else fails...try the software called VueScan. It's free to download
and try out.
You can use VueScan to see if it will fixes your problem, before making any
commitment.

http://www.hamrick.com/

It fixed my HP 6200C scanner Vista problem and it has a huge list of other
scanners that will also work with VueScan. I suspect it will fix your
problem too.

It's pay software, if your decide to keep...which I did. I'm happy with
VueScan
and it saved my scanner.

Best regards,
Ozark58

(I'm not associated with VueScan in any way, other than being a satisfied
user.)

I have just read your responce re the above subject and decided to have a
look at "ViewScan" and dounload, a great little program that will alow me to
scan and save to HD my documents with my HP psc 1350. It works well and
simply.
