HP PSC2210 'all in one' printer : scanner does not function

Hi all,
my girlfriend has a HP PSC2210 'all in one' printer, she want to use
the scanner and the printer (not the fax).
Printing goes fine, the scanner does not give response.
I removed the driver from the PC, downloaded a new driver from the HP
site, installed it on the (rather new) PC but still no activity.
The PC is running with XP.
On the HP website I found also a possibility to update the firmware,
but the text did not mention scanner faults as a problem.
Anyone a clue to search for?
Thanks in advance,
Chris.

Doe the printer copy OK? Or is this only a problem when scanning to the PC?

Hi Tony,
thanks for your attention.
The copieer works, it copies to paper. So it seems the scanner engine
works, but not to a file on the PC.
Your help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Chris.

A couple of thoughts.
When you reinstalled the printer did you wait until the driver asked you to
connect the printer cable or had you connected the printer before installing?
The former is correct, the latter can cause problems.
Is there by any chance another scanner installed on the PC? If so you will have
to uninstall it and reinstall the printer/scanner.
It may be worthwhile upgrading the firmware anyway, sometimes rare conditions
are not mentioned on vendors websites.

Hi Tony,
during installation of the software, the printer/scanner was
disconnected. During installation is ordered for making the
connection, so I did. No other scanner is installed on the PC.
As I understand from your answer, if the scanner copies to paper, it
is likely the problem should not be found in the printer/scanner but
in the PC?

So, it still does not work :-( On the internet, I found something
about a stupidity of HP to share both fascilities to one USB port but
to me that looks strange. HP sold many of these products so it should
work!).
May be some other participant in this newsgroup has an idea what to
look at?
Thanks in advance,
Chris.

Since the printer part and the PC seem to be communicating, it probably
isn't this, but it wouldn't hurt to try a different USB cable and/or
port on the computer.
