hp psc1100 System Error Message

Started getting 'System Error' message when I try to print. Have tried all
troubleshooting suggestions such as uninstalling then reinstalling
softwear, etc, etc, nothing seems to work.
A troubleshooting suggestion is to try and print using >All
Programmes>Accessories>Notepad, type a message, > file >print. This worked
and the page was printed, so there is an established connection between the
computer and printer. However, if I try to print anything from a file, etc
or try to print a test page from the HP psc1100 series tool box, I keep
getting the 'System Error. The document cannot be printed due to a system
error' message. Can anyone give me advice on how to fix this?

The other problem I seem to be having is that I cannot seem
to be able to download the HP diagnostics plugin. Any advice on how I can get
it to download?

Sorry, call me disolutioned, but chatting to an HP Online "Technician"(???)
was a total waste of my time and money -calls costs 60p per minute and they
don't half take their time! I was under the illusion that I was actually
going to speak to a TECHNICIAN not someone who is reading from the same
troubleshooting pages that I found for myself for free. Also I was promised
call-backs on three seperate occasions. Twice I had to get back in touch
myself - more wasted time and money, and I am still waiting for the third
callback.
