WELL .. What a printer ! I sure am expressed. sure does have tiny ink
cartridges..and I have ONE question:
Can I put in a black ink cartridge in place of a color
cartridge and 'fool' the printer into thinking it's a color one ? reason
?
I don't use much color and I don't want the color cartirdge to dry out.
so
maybe I can put a black on in and the 2210 will 'think' it's color. I
don't
know if the printhead would specify which cartridge it is to the
printer.
The printer makes a lot of noise ..but it's Impressive <G>

I believe you can just have the one black cartridge installed, and the
printer will just use that and print in grayscale for everything. You need
to get the holder thing for the color cartridge though, if you're going to
leave it outside. It came with the #58 cartridge for my printer... And
yep, the latest generation of HP printers/multifuctions are impressive :)

No.

According to our unofficial official guru Bob, both cartridges have to
be installed--although one or the other can be empty.

Group-google in comp.periphs.printers for 'HP PSC 2210 ink
requirements'. You'll find his message dated 4 March 2003.

cheers,

Henry

My Photosmart 7350 (which uses the same print engine) can be used with
either just the black or just the color cartridge. So if one runs out, you
can either leave it in or just remove it all together.

This thread is answering questions that I would've posted myself.

Here's another one regarding the PSC 2210. I really don't need to produce
color copies all that much, except on rare occasions. I would just as soon
have all black cartridges, except one color cartridge on hand -- for that
rare occasion. If the color cartridge is dry or not in the printer, what'll
the output look like? Would it be black, plus shades of gray wherever the
original isn't pure black?

Thanks.

I have the same model and asked the same question ! the answer I got
was that there has to be a color (as in what mine is #57) cart. in there
! you can't put in another black one .. I don't know what it would do if
there was a 'dry' color one. Surely it would go on and print with the
black ? I'm not as pleased as I thought I would be with mine .. one
thing..I can NOT get the fax to work ..and that is one reason I got this
model ..it was a 4 in 1 .. and I don't think the photo image scanned and
printed copy is as good as my old trusty Canon that died.
what I do when I copy or print anything.. I go to the print setting and
make sure I've selected 'grey scale' and then click on the B/W button..
that way I'm sure it's printing in all black ! BOY .. those cartridges
are expensive. I'm goin to have mine refilled by a company .. and then
I'll learn how to refill myself ..like I used to do.
Let me know if you'd like to email more privately ..I'm anxious to
'talk' with someone who has the exact model I do !

spaces, of course !
