HP Product Assistant Pop-up

There is a computer I use sometimes that is connected to an HP printer, so it
has several HP software applications installed. Whenever I log on to the
computer, the "HP Product Assistant" opens, and continues to open every 10-15
minutes or so.

This window informs me that HP Product Assistant can notify me when there is
an error with the printer or something, and find HP updates, and it has an
"OK" button to close it (no "search for updates" option or anything). But
other than that, there is no point to this window.

Does anyone know how I can stop this annoying window from opening all the
time?

Start, Run, (type) MSCONFIG (enter)

Uncheck the entry for the HP Product Assistant. Click Apply. Reboot. Does
it still popup?

I tried all of the suggested remedies (disabling notices within HPPA, unchecking it from MSCONFIG, trying to uninstall HPPA software, etc.), all to no avail. The only thing that worked was uninstalling all the HP printer software, then re-installing. Upon re-installing, perform the "Custom" install, then uncheck all of the options except the basic driver package. HPPA appears to be part of the "Basic Services" package in the custom install list (NOT the "Update" option, or the OCR option, etc.). I do not see loss of basic functionality when installing only the basic driver package, the other stuff is crap anyway.
