HP printer not recognized after upgrade to XP Pro

My HP Deskjet 3820 checks out OK, but all HP's and
Microsoft's instructions on uninstall/reinstall do not
solve the problem of unrecognized printer on USB port.

Any help would be appreciated.

Go to HP Web site and see if news drivers are available
for your hardware.

Delete the printer and the port and reboot. Then reinstall
the printer software and connect the USB cable only when
prompted by the software.

You upgraded and kept the printer connected. You have corrupted the
drivers. Do a COMPLETE uninstall and reinstall.
