HP Officejet, constant cartridge installed popups

I just bought an HP OfficeJet 7310 to replace a psc 2410. I fully
uninstalled the software for the 2410 (it was the basic driver, not the
full.)

I downloaded an installed the basic feature with networking driver from
HP. The printer is connected using USB for now. I followed all the
install instructions exactly.

Whenever I print, I get 3 popups. One tells me a NEW photo cartridge was
succesfully installed, the next says the NEW tri-color was successfully
installed, then the 3rd says the NEW black was successfully installed.
This happens as soon as it's finished spooling. I only have the tri-
color and black that came with it installed. I also get the popups when
I go into the service routines. It does show the ink levels.

Any ideas or solutions?

All I can say, Andrew, is that if you know you have good carts in
there, look elsewhere for the problem and save the trouble of moving
the carts in and out, which causes other problems.
I have had those untimely cart error messages when the problem was the
print software.

After another attempt at Googling around, I found some links to HP's
forums with a few suggestions.

http://tinyurl.com/3aw4t2

One was to reset the printer. Turn it on, pull the power cord, hold down
9 and # keys, reapply power, release the keys. That didn't work.

A reply from an HP trouble support message I sent said to uncheck
'Display Status Window' in the configuration tab of the Toolbox. That is
grayed out and already unchecked.

Another mentioned a service named 'PML Driver HPZ12'. I checked and
found that service, and changed it to DISABLED. That appears to have
fixed it.

Other suggestions involve uninstalling/re-installing the software. And
maybe resetting the printer (disconnected from computer) between the
un/re-install.

Another suggestion involves removing the cartridges and power cycling a
few times.

Some more observations.

I installed the FULL software from the CD on another computer. No issues
with the popups, but I notcied that PML Driver was set to Manual. On the
problem computer, it was set to Automatic. I wonder if it was starting
up on it's own and getting confused because the other HP software wasn't
ready. I may try some more experimenting to see if changing it to Manual
will prevent the popups without fully disabling it.
