HP Officejet 7310 Installation

During installation using a USB connection, I get the following error message:

"the required section was not found in inf"

Both HP and Dell technical support say that I have to reinstall Windows
2000. This is a last resort for me. Any suggestions?

Try a System File Check.... from the Command Prompt, type

sfc /scannow

(note the space between the c and the /)
