Suppose to do s system re-installation of my Hp. I do not have any of the
cd's. I do not know what the shop do, but this is the senario. When I on my
pc at desktop I get this message
C:\Docume~1\Compaq\taskmgr.exe
Windows cannot find " C:\Docume~1\Compaq\taskmgr.exe "". Make sure you type
the name correctly, and try again. To search ........" I uncheck everything
inthe msconfig, and the problem still esist,Question is how can I get rid of
this message.

In my device manager under "Other Device"- ? PCI Device and there is no
sound. So I downloaded the audio from HP for my model and try to install it.
I try to update the driver for this "other device" but it cannot dind the
driver, thus still showl "pci device. There is no other pci devices apart
from the dial up modem which is working ok as I can go to the net using the
dialup.

Just wonder if this "" C:\Docume~1\Compaq\taskmgr.exe""Look forward for
some assistance,thanks

Just realised that there is no icons in the quick launch on the task bar near
start button.

The Taskmgr.exe or the Tsadmin.exe program may stop responding when you open
Task Manager on a computer that is running Terminal Services in remote
administration mode
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/837060

Run disk clean Up and Scan for malware on your system then reboot, does the
error occur?.
OPen a run command and type in:
sfc /scannow , you may need an XP CD for this?.

I highly recommend that you never think of reinstalling! This is only
necessary if all other avenues are tried. And it is most of the time
never necessary. Plus follow nass <[email protected]>
advice.

As far as the sound card, sounds like you have the wrong sound card
driver to me. Did it ever work? Or is this a new problem? Is this the
original Windows OS? Or did you just upgrade it?

Ran the Clean Up and trying to see how to run the malware.
run>sfc /scannow and when insert the cd, it gives a welcome to MS Windows XP
and ask what do you want to do? Choice install xp,learn more about the setup,
install optional windows components, perform additional rask and last option
check system compatibility. So which one should I choose? When I
'EXIT" I see that "Windows File Protection' is running. I guess this is what
I should be looking for. After that I restart and the message still persist
and liewise "pci devices'
If I do "add hardware' it will point to other devices and cannot locate the
drivers.

The pc was working fine except very slow and thats why send it to the shop
and this is what I get. What can I do next........

Hi,
I meant be getting the XP CD ready when the system File checker will run and
find a corrupt or Damaged file/folder it will ask you to insert the CD to
copy that file/folder to the system core.
Look in the Event Viewer for error messages and double click them to get
more info and you can copy & paste in your next post.

NAV scan found w32.olderdata and status "repair failed'
The file c:\docs n setting\compaq\local setting\Temp\Kill Brontok.exe is
infected with the w32.olderdata virus
Shall I quarantine this? Guess no other options as it does not have a delete
function?

Just now when I run sfc /scannow, it ask me to insert the cd. Looking at the
Event Viewer, there are no error under all the 3 catogories namely
Application,Security and System. There is nothing inside the Internet
Explorer. (I did scroll down to check for all the 3 catogories)

Yes! It is in your temp folder. You don't need it at all!

Good!

Clear all the temp files but the error message still appears upon boot to
desktop and still the "pci device" the driver could not be install. I guess
either live with it or reformat again. Any ideas..........thanks

Oh no don't reformat! Give it time, it can and will be fixed. Reformat
can and most likely make things a lot worse. I wish more people knew
this. And if you go that route, please let us know. As there are things
you have to know first.

Just for info if this is of help to resolve the issue. When the error box ix
open, press alt/ctlr/delete doesnot open the task manager. When you closed
the error box and open the task manager, under application - nothing running,
process yes and under performance - cpu abt 2% usage.

You mean nothings show under:

Task Manager
Applications (tab)

All that shows IMHO is what is in the taskbar. It doesn't show what is
running in the System Tray (by the clock) or those that are hidden.

Do you know how to get into safe mode (if you don't just ask)? Safe mode
will only run a part of Windows (not all of it) and that is all (all
other things will be disabled).

Hi,
Go through these cleaning steps:
1... First, try to clean up your caches, Internet files and delete cookies
by doing this:
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet

On the IE properties windows you will see these Taps:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced
Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.
Then click on Programs Tab and click Manage Add-Ons and Disable all non
Verified Add-Ons (You should Renable them later one-by-one and see the
culprit and update it or remove it.
How to manage Add-Ons:

2... You need to be sure your system is clean from malwares and Viruses by
scanning for them
Scan for malwares from here:
http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
http://www.safer-networking.org ; for Spybot S&D
