HP Laserjet IIP Help?

J

John

If anyone out there is familiar with the workings of the HP Laserjet IIP
perhaps you'd be kind enough to explain to me how output can be delivered
out the front rather than the top.

Outputting to the top of the printer is giving me a problem in that the
paper seems to struggle a bit when it leaves the manual feed tray. This
causes the lines of text on the page to be squeezed together. I'd like to
see if outputting via the front works okay.

Thanks.

If it's anything like my IIIP you just flip open the narrow plastic strip above
the cog wheels on the front. See instructions for printing transparencies etc.

See <http://www.printerworks.com/Printers/Laser-Printers.html> and the
links for "LX" printers.
The exploded plan at
<http://www.printerworks.com/Catalogs/LX-Catalog/LXAssblyLocDiag.html>
shows the "paper path door"; open that and the prints will come out
there.

It sounds like you're in the early stages of the "concertina jam" due
to the rollers aging and not pulling the paper properly. They have a
roller kit that should fix that; other HP parts vendors also.

I've got the same printer with the same problem. I need to get more
memory for the IIP and toner; what can I expect to pay for these items
if they're still available?

Toner is no problem, you can get HP, clones or refills anywhere. When
Googling for printer info you have to wade through pages of toner
sellers to find technical stuff. The IIP uses an "LX" cartridge.

For RAM the IIP requires a proprietorial expansion board.
See <http://www.printerworks.com/Printers/LaserJet_IIP_IIIP.html> for
info. Follow the links for Memory and you get their catalog. It's
relatively expensive, but from there you can get the part numbers and
search elsewhere, such as eBay for cheaper.
Also see <http://www.kingston.com/support/install/memory/HP.asp> which
doesn't sell it any more, but still has some good guides on upgrading
HP RAM there.

Personally I wouldn't spend more than $50 or so on upgrading it. For
that much you can find a much higher specced HP4.

While I was looking at this, I found that I actually have a compatible
4MB ramboard. If you're interested, email me at <56oe47k02 AT
sneakemail DOT com>
(not the address in the headers above).

I have a Laserjet IIp that was given to me, and other than the
LCD display being blued-out (I can sort-of read it), it is clean
and almost new, in fact, it still had its 1st toner cartridge in
it.

HOWEVER, I hear the motor spin up, and the paper feed sloenoid click,
then no paper gets fed. The motor is turning, and after consulting
a parts diagram from the Apple version of this printer, I see I am
missing the tiny gear that press-fits onto the end of the main motor
shaft, which engages and drives the bitg main white gear. You can see
the part I'm describing, circled in red, in the pic at

If anyone has a junker from which they'd be willing to extract this
part and sell it to me for a price I can afford, I'd be very grateful!

Thanks in advance,
-doug q

You can't get the gear without the motor. I can sell you the motor
with gear. E-mail me at (e-mail address removed). Leave out the
obvious from the email address.
