HP LaserJet 5L

Sam

I have a parallel interface LaserJet 5L. When I connect it
to a workstation running Win2000, it self-installs
correctly and runs just fine - can print a 'test page' and
documents from MS Word etc OK. When I connect it to Win XP
Pro, it self installs in the same way but it cannot print
anything other than a line of hieroglyphs. I have copied
the "lj631en.exe" driver from the HP DRIVERS server and
re-installed with that, but to no avail.
Please help.

As the computer starts, enter the BIOS setup and navigate to the printer
port the printer is using (probably Lpt1). Set it to SPP or similar but not
ECP, EPP, or ECP & EPP. Save settings and exit BIOS setup. Let the computer
boot.

Win XP should install proper support. If not, navigate to Printers and faxes
and delete the printer. Go to Device Manager in Control Panel System.
Delete the port. Shut down Windows and the computer. Restart.

Let us know.
