HP LaserJet 5L - Creaking noise

After many years of noiseless operation my HP Laserjet 5L has started to creak
when it apparently operates the transport mechanism. It probably comes from the
left front area, but I cannot locate it more precisely. The creaking is loudest
at beginning of operation, when printing several pages, it disappears. I have
sprayed PTFE-spray blindly to the left front mechanic parts inside, it did not
help much. I did not yet open the printer. Any similar experience and known
remedy?

Most often this is a toner cartridge problem. Have you got an old one that you
can try?

Good idea. I think the sound has started after changing a toner cartridge. And
maybe I still have the old one at home and not yet returned to the dealer. After
the weekend I will see. Is there anything I can lubricate on the toner cartridge
mechanism? I have had a look at that, too, but was not sure where on the toner
any shaft or axle engages and whether it is advisable to spray PTFE-lubricant
anywhere there.

I suggest you return the cartridge to your supplier for a replacement. The
likely cause is a poorly lubricated drum in the cartridge and that requires a
special dry powder lubricant.

I sprayed the left and right axle endings of the apparently rotating part of the
cartridge with PTFE-dry-lubricant spray from the outside, the creaking stopped.

Thanks for the tip with the cartridge. If it starts creaking again, I will bring
it back to the dealer.
