HP LaserJet 4050 Toner Level?

In our office we've got both a B/W HP LaserJet 4050 and a color
LaserJet 4550. With the web interface on the color printer I can get
quite a bit of consumable status information - toner levels, drum life
remaining, etc. I don't see this information anywhere in the 4050's
web interface. Is it available?

The 4050 test page will print a bargraph of toner remaining. It's not
overly accurate... I don't see anything about toner supplies through
the web interface of a JetDirect in one, though.

Have you considered snmp? If you have an embedded web server, odds are
you have snmp access. Check out RFC1759's printMIB, prtInputEntry for
paper, toner and other levels:

prtInput
1.3.6.1.2.1.43.8.*

prtOutput
1.3.6.1.2.1.43.9.*

for example, prtMarkerSuppliesMaxCapacity is total toner capacity and
prtMarkerSuppliesLevel is the current toner level (or ink, etc.
depending on what your device is using).

Use utilities like snmpwalk to see what info is available on that
device. We work closely with HP developing new printing solutions, and
all their newer printers are RFC1759 compliant-which is nice! Let me
know how you do!

Good luck!
