I own an old HP LJ4 with 2 Mo of memory.

After power on self test, the state of the printer is ready.

When I try to printer a copy, I have the error 51 but sometimes, I have the
copy. So, I don't have any idea about the source of the problem.

Likes I don't have the manual (I find this printer in a trash...), I want to
know if any one already get this message and how can I correct it.

ERROR 51 (Loss of beam detect) IIP/IIP+/IIIP

a.. Improperly seated toner cartridge - remove and reinstall
b.. Laser shutter blocked or damaged
c.. Damaged fiber optic cable
d.. Defective Laser PCA - replace
II/IID/III/IIID
a.. Defective toner cartridge - Replace with different cartridge, even
empty for testing
b.. Bad or loose cable connectors - Scanner to DC Controller - check and
tighten connector pins at both ends of cable
c.. Damaged Fiber optic cable - examine for cuts or kinks, replace as
necessary
d.. Defective Scanner Assembly - Replace RG5-0050
