HP LASERJET 3055

S

I bought HP laserjet 3055 from HP about 3 months now.
I have tried all options from HP support but scanning on this printer
does refuse to work.

I get message: HP device no initialized properly.

I did google on HP laserjet 3055 printer and exactly same issues are
reported by many users. They seemed to resign or frustated with no
soution from HP support

Those support /advanced support guys have no clue. several
reboots, several software removals, several menu checking but to no
fruits.

Last option I am told is to take this machine back to stores. THIS IS
ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. HP GUYS Have no clue how to resolve problem.

THIS PROBLEM IS REPORTED ON GOOLGE BY SEVERAL PEOPLE. IT SHOULD NOT BE
THIS DIFFIUCLT SCANNING image/text.

Any one having any suggestion to resolve the problem would be
appreicated.

I have 4 machines and I have tried on each machine but problem is same.
I dont have firewalls, wirless connection is unsecured and I dont
have netowrk printer.

Hello,

From what I have read on this issue, it appears to be a
problem with the HP software retaining the fixed IP of the printer.
There is a fix utility that you can run to correct the issue, but some
people have said that they have to run it each time they want to scan.
I was planning on buying this printer thanks for telling me about this
before I bought it.

Hi Nick
I would certainly not go with this printer. Though I consider myself
technical person(software side with BS in electronics), I gave up.
I spent atleast 4 hours resolving on my own and with help of HP
support and advanced support.

I even thought that may be it is related to firewall. Few days ago, I
had to format my HD and installed WindowsXP with no other software and
still SCANNING does not work.

I am pretty sure that it is a defect (bug) on this printer. I
recommmend strongly to not buy this printer otherwise you may have to
struggle getting scanning work.

Hope someone at HP picks up this thread and step up to correct problems
and enhance support.

Thanks
Subodh

Hi Subodh,

This is the patch that I found (well not a real fix from what
I have read).

Have you tried this to see if it fixes the issue? Let me know if it
does and if it fixes it permanently or you have to run it each time.

I may have to live with the problem, there isn't another AOI I like
since most have built in fans that run for over 2 minutes after a
print job and annoys the heck out of me.

I may end up sacrificing the scanning feature and just get the
laserjet 1020, or try getting a new roller for my laserjet 1100 and
see if it helps unless someone can suggest a better printer.

BTW do you notice any pages printing on a slight slant? This is a huge
concern of mine and I can't understand why laserjets only have one
pickup roller and inkjets have 3. To me the 3 would help ensure no
pages are printed crooked.

Thanks,
Nick

Feeding paper straight is not a function of the pickup rollers in most
printers. Many inkjets only have one pickup roller.
Straight feeding is a function of the registration rollers and/or the paper
guides in the printer (in almost every case). Some inkjets combine the feed and
registration rollers but I have not noticed that they feed any straighter than
those with separate feed rollers, but that may be the case.
Most printers that are the subject of this newsgroup will sometimes feed at a
slight angle, to get perfect registration you need to pay heaps of money. The
question is how much of an angle are you experiencing?

Hi Nick

I had tried this utility very first day when working with HP support
There is no change. I encounter the same error.

I have not noticed any slant pages printing. Fax and Printing has been
normal.

Finally, I am going to give one more shot to resolve this issue
starting from scratch on the weekend. IF anything changes, I will let
you know.

I think I may have found my problem with the slanting. I was using
28lb paper for some projects and that is where I noticed the problem.
I tried 20lb paper and didn't see any issues. I was getting angles of
up to 5 degrees on some printouts. I need to research what the
suggested weight that can run through my LaserJet and will get a new
pickup roller since mine is almost 10 years old.

Finally I understand the issue with scanning
I once again contacted HP rep. This time Shaun was online and worked
with me step by step and had good understanding of the issue.

We went step by step

The problem we narrowed down

1. Reboot (Hard reboot) by pressing * and # sign and power on till
LCD displays Permanent storage init. ( it takes 2 minutes to
initiailize)

2. menu- service- restore defaults

3. Open up the ADF cover , there is a small u shaped plastic (black)
lid. Which should only move 180 degress not 360 degrees ( It was ok in
my case moving only in clockwise(down) direction

4. Remove the spring on the corner of cover, gently left the roller
assembly. There is a gray colored patch. it was intact

5. The roller (single) was having a gap of 1/4 inch between a cork
surface and roller.

We scanned using windows scan and it worked for first time.

We then scanned using HP software and problem resurfaced.

This time I explained him that the LCD message displayed has been '
Document loaded' all time instead of Ready or Auto

That's the problem. The LCD should display AUTO and READY status

We rechecked the U shaped black sensor. ON pressing it hard downward,
Display changed to AUTO momentarily and started jumping between 'auto'
and 'Document loaded'

He realised that sensor was malfunctioning and needed service.
He has now made arrangements to exchange /fix the equipment.

I am now convinced that's the reason the scanning was not working.
