HP Laserjet 1012 with smoke

I have an HP Laserjet 1012 printer. I've owned this printer for about
1.5 years, and it's worked well during taht time. However, recently
I've noticed that when printing, a little bit of white smoke would
come out with each page. The page would print fine (nothing went on
fire or anything), but I know I shouldn't be getting any smoke. The
smoke does not smell like burning exactly ... I'm thinking its
probably something from the toner, and thus I am not going to try and
smell it anymore (I figure it might be toxic).

I'm not sure what to do with the printer or how to fix it. It still
prints fine, but that wisp of white smoke that comes with each page
really doesn't make me comfortable. Any ideas? Would a toner
replacement fix it? Or a temperatuer thing (I did try turning the type
of paper from plain paper to recycled since I think that's lower
temperature, but still got some smoke)? Thanks.

Are you really sure it is smoke? Is it white and does it disappear into the
atmosphere almost immediately?
If so, it is steam not smoke.
The fuser (the heated roller that sets the toner) is immediately under the
grills at the top rear of this printer and in humid conditions does in fact
produce steam.
Probably most lasers do this in humid conditions but the steam dissipates
inside the printer and the user never sees it.

It could be just dust. Or it could be something's cooking. I doubt
the toner would be smoking since it is designed to get warm during
operation. Unless the fuser is overheating but then you'd probably
notice problem on the printout.

Does the smoke smell like plastic? Could be the gears are rubbing
somewhere and needs a little grease. You probably should get a
printer expert to come over and take a look at the printer. It is
hard to diagnose the problem over internet.

Thanks. I think it was steam as you mentioned. The "fumes" disappear
pretty quickly, and it seems like the printer had more of a humidifier
type of smell. It definitely does not smell like burning, and the
print quality is still perfect.
