These printers were designed for high volume printing.. Pretty much any part
that can wear out is easily replaced by the end user including all rollers,
gears, fuser, laser assembly, and engion.. There are quite a few second had
parts for them.. If you have any problems with it, just shoot me an email
and I will see if I can assist you..

Thanks!

Nah... My wife's LJ 4 has close to 560,000 on it, and my LaserJet 4000 has
546,000+. Most of the rest of my printers have a lot less, less than 100K.

I bought one of those new for my business in 1994, give or take a
year. In 1996 I sold the business, including the printer. The buyers
of the business are friends and I visit often. The printer currently
has 1.2 million copies on it, and still works flawlessly.

A couple months ago the secretary mentioned that she was running out
of toner. I got four new reman carts for her for $38 plus $6 shipping
on eBay. When they arrived they turned out to be Verbatim, an
excellent brand of remanufactured cartridge. That's also the best
place to get other parts.

You do have to install maintenance kits every couple hundred thousand
copies. But basically, these machines will run forever. HP sold
bazillions of this model, so there will be drivers for new versions of
operating systems for a very long time.

The only caveat I have for you is to leave it turned off unless you're
going to use it. Leaving it turned on will eventually degrade the LCD
in the control panel. You can get replacement LCDs on eBay for $15-20,
but as long as yours is still working fine leaving the machine turned
off when not in use will extend the life of the LCD.
