HP Laptop with Athlon 64 processor

I have a 2004 model of an HP Pavilion zv5200 with an Athlon 64 2.0Gb
processor. When I look at the system information it only shows a processor
at 796Mhz. The computer certainly does not seem that quick. Could XP be
"interpreting" the processor speed at 797? I am not running the 64 bit
version of XP. The system is 32 XP Professional. Help! Thanks.

It is more likely that you have some sort of power-saving "speed step"
throttling going on. This is a common laptop function to save battery
life. Look in your power settings.
