HP JL II printing problem

The current cartridge (a refilled one) in my HP JL II prints fainter off
to one side than the other. I've been putting up with it but it really
was a problem with some stuff I printed today.

Any way to shake, rattle, or roll the toner cartridge to correct this,
or is cartridge replacement the only way around this?

Use the same procedure that is part of the new cartridge install. You
rotate the cartridge back and forth around the long axis.
