HP J5780 won't install with w2k

I've been on the phone with HP for two days now. No help. In the installation
process, only the barebones drivers are available..... the software suite
(all in one printer) won't install..... isn't even an option. HP's answer is
to change my OS, even though the box says W2k compatible. They did offer to
sell me an upgrade printer at wholesale..... $5 more than I can buy it at
Best Buy.

HELP!

Been there, done that. Still wouldn't install. Copied the software to HD &
tried to install from there too.... same thing. It's like the HP software is
looking for something on my system that isn't there.
After the second day an HP supervisor was supposed to call & didn't, I
bought XP Pro.... everything works now.

My $129 HP printer is now a $329 HP printer. It's a known issue..... one of
the support techs all but admitted to it, 'til I mentioned the box says W2k
compatable.

HP tech support truly sucks.

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

What a hassle you had to go through. But glad you have it working correctly
now.

I just bought a HP DeskJet F4140 ( all-in-one ) and have the same problem
using Win 2000 Pro.

The install CD that came with the printer won't work because it doesn't have
the latest Win 2000 drivers for the 4140.

Downloading the full package still only gives you the basic install, no
Photosmart program or Scan capabilities.
I finally found a note on HP support about scanning with the 4140 which
says...

Note: The Scan button does not work with the Windows 2000 operating system.
The software CD contains drivers for Windows 2000 only and
therefore has limited functions.

As already stated in this thread the printer box says Windows 2000 SP3
compatible and that the printer is supposed to Print,Copy,SCAN, and Fax but
it won't Scan or install Photosmart.

This is blatant false advertising and HP knows it.

I haven't been able to find out if the needed drivers will ever become
available.

Upgrading the OS is a totally unreasonable solution for anyone using Win
2000.

What the H_ _ L is HP thinking!!!!
