HP Image Zone - uninstall/reinstall problem

Hi Guys,

Had a HDD go bad on me, and replaced it. Cloned the old HDD to the new
one and did a repair install because some of the windows files got
corrupt.

All good now execpt for one thing: HP Image Zone now comes up running
installer, then gathering information then the weird bit - it bring up
a dialog box with some text saying something to the effect that:

"The rescource you are trying to use is on a CDROM or other media,
please select device" I then have a button "Browse" and a drop down
box simple with "1" in it.

Ordiniarily when you see this type of message it gives you the name of
the file its trying to find, but in this case I get just the "1" and
pointing it at the CDROM via the browse button with the HP cd in
doesnt seem to help.

So i tried a uninstall/reinstall via Add remove programs, that failed,
so I did it via the HP CD, but after reinstalling - same error.

Anybody got any other suggestions? Upgrade MS .Net maybe?

Please help,

Cheers

Hello Al:

Many uninstalls neglect the registry hive entries.  After doing
another uninstall, try going through the registry with a "fine
toothed comb"  Since this whole experience has some comparisons
to a new install, you may wish to see if "CHKDSK" shows any
problems.  You might also consider running "System File Checker"
(SFC) against your system's original install CD.  After all that,
you might consider installing Service Pack 3.  "CCleaner" is nice
for cleaning up after another uninstall attempt too.

Best wishes and good luck,

Thanks for that tip I will try ccleaner - I assume I should backup the
reg first?

Another weird thing I noticed was, on one of the uninstalls, when the
add remove failed I deleted the directory containing the executeable.
When I tried to reinsall from the CD, it said it succeeded, but when I
clicked on the icon the executeable was missing.

It had put the directory back with some of the dll's but not the
exe??????
