HP DJ720C and Win XP Pro

Hello,

My HP DJ 720 C printer had been working very well... as far as the PC ran Win
98. I have recently installed Win XP Pro (starting with format c:) and I have
the following complaints:

1 - "standard" driver coming with XP runs, but I have lost many useful
functions (recto-verso printing, ...)
2 - when printing a document, "some" pages are printed out in blue, without
any reason.

I was not able to find any driver update for XP on HP web site.

Can somebody help me?

Many thanks in advance,

underneath my scribble :

There are no proper updated drivers produced by HP for older printers
these days - this seems to be HP policy presumably to keep customers
buying newer printers. Your only way out is to have another system
(W98) to get the full use of your printer, and not to buy HP again
until they change their policy.
The W2k and I imagine XP bundle drivers use up much more colour ink
and do not use the black cart properly unless you choose monochrome.
Colour printing with proper black only text and graphics is not
possible under the newer Operating systems drivers, therefor they use
up much more colour ink and you lose the higher resolution possible
from the black cartridge. Hope this helps you!

I thank you for the reply, Charlie+
If it helps? Yes... it confirms my thinking that I have no option but to
regress on the Windows side... unless I upgrade (with my own $) on printer
side :-(

When I was writing my request, I was dreaming...

Thank you also for the information on the bad cartridge management, I didn't
notice it till now. But I have some doubt: do you mean that there is no
printer for which the black cartridge is correctly managed under XP? From HP
or other?

Cirdan.

No sorry to say the only drivers are the built in ones and they only
offer the basics no double sided. That said it worked fine for my 720c.
Why you get blue I don't know unless your printing a web page that's had
a black background. Did that happen on the testpage and does it have
blackink

No, Im sure if you keep buying new HP printers whenever Microsoft
comes out with a new version of Windows - your new HP printer will
come with proper HP drivers allowing full use of the printer! - UNTIL
the next Windows upgrade!!

For the DJ500 series the last drivers from hp came for WfW(remember windows for
workgroups?).However with the Windows drivers everything was fine from win95
till ME.With XP however things got so bad i got me a new printer(graphics were
looking exactly like from a 9-pin matrix printer,a downgrade to the eighties.

I do not get blue on every page. It only happens on some documents. When it
happens, it concerns only all what is written in one page: characters that
should be black are blue. Then, the next page is correct with characters color
returning to black... And the "blue page" cannot be printed in black, even if
queued alone (except in monochrome mode...).
Nothing is visible on the test page which looks fine.
