HP Deskjet 500, OfficeJet 500 ink cartridge differences?

What are the differences between the #29 ink cartridge for the HP
OfficeJet 500 and DeskJet 600 and the #26 cartridge for the DeskJet
500, other than the notch on one side of the plastic on top? IOW if I
cut the plastic, will a #29 cartridge work in a DeskJet 500? Does
anything else have to be done?

THAT IS SUCH AN OLD PIECE OF TRASH IT IS NOT EVEN WORTH THINKING ABOUT.
THROW IT AWAY.

I only use it for text printing, for which it's worked fine, and I can
get #29 cartridges really cheap.

What did they change with the #29 cartridges, other than the notch that
prvents it from locking into place in a DeskJet 500?

I have never tried it but I suspect it is very unlikely, generally speaking
(with some exceptions) HP ink cartridges are not interchangeable and this is
achieved by the printer recognising the cartridge through the built in
electronics in the printhead.
