HP Deskjet 3745 Ink Cartridges

I rarely print anything and have no need for a color cartridge. However,
when the color cartridge runs out, I can't get the printer to function. How
do I eliminate the color cartridge and still have a functional printer ??

Remove the color cartridge, the printer should switch automatically to
"reserve mode" and print using the black cartridge, assuming you have a
working black cartridge in the printer.
