HP 895cse Question

Dave C.

I have a HP 895cse running on my P3 computer using a parallel port. I am
going to buy a P4 from Dell. Parallel port is not standard unless I order
it.

Can I run this printer on Microsoft XP?

The manual says I can run on it with a parallel or USB port, but of course
XP was not out when this printer entered the market.

What other need would dI ever have for a parallel port? If this printer can
run on XP, I'll use a USB.

If parallel ports are gone by the wayside, I won't get it.

(Sorry for the long-winded-ness....)

What version of Dell are you ordering? The ATX motherboard form factor specifies one parallel port,
so I am wondering which Dell model has omitted it.

Absolutely. I have one running right now on WinXP home on a Gateway. Drivers
are built into WinXP. Plug & play, that simple.

I'm ordering an 8300, and I requested a parallel port. Like the 3 1/2
drive, it easily added in the system. This one has six USB ports. I have
sent HP a message. Not sure how fast I'll get a reply. My guess is that I
can run it with a USB port. I'll need a driver probably.

This is a Spec sheet on the 8300 from Dell. You will notice it does have one parallel port and the

Doesn't the 895 have both parallel and USB connections? I have one at
work and it does. Also, with XP, you will be stuck with the stock
Microsoft drivers. They actually aren't that bad if they are the same as
the Win2K drivers I use at work (on a Win2K computer, of course.)

HP replied quickly indicating that the XP has a suitable driver for it.
When the Dell 8300 comes in, I'll try it.
