HP 7350 problems, with borderless 4"x6"

Kinketsu

I bought an HP 7350 the other day on clearance.

Got a good price but am having several issues. I wonder whether folks
here have encountered and hopefully resolved these, or whether I need
to swap out this printer.

- all "borderless" 4x6 (on non-tabbed paper, anyway) are in fact
smaller than 4x6, leaving a white border of about 0.5" on the trailing
edge. If the original content is dimensioned as 4x6, this actually
leaves out content from the picture

- most times when I print 4x6, the printer starts to print, but then I
get a message from the HP software that "This document failed to
print", and that I should open up the print queue and cancel the job.
Doing just that does not succeed, and whether I attempt to cancel or
not, the job prints anyway.

- In the resulting print, on the first 0.5" of *leading* edge, the
first 0.2" is white, then for 0.1" the content is OK, and then the
next 0.2" has a band of junk printing in it. The latter, I have
determined, is a consequence of the first, failed print attempt
mentioned in the previous bullet. But I have no idea what I can do
about this.

Any ideas? Is this thing broken?

(And yes, I have done the uninstall/reinstall, plug/unplug, etc etc to
no avail.)

Any guidance anyone can provide would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
Kinketsu

How much did you pay? Just curious. I bought mine in January of 2003 for
$150usd - and I'm still pleased with my purchase.

The Photosmart 7350 does not do borderless 4x6 without tabbed paper. That
is the limitation. The newer 7x60 series printers do, however.

Sounds like a problem within your computer. What OS are you using? It
could be the driver, but I've found it to be very stable.

Is this a 4x6 with a tab? If it isn't, then try the tabbed paper. I buy HP
Premium Plus photo paper - 10mil or 11.5mil. Works quite well.

I doubt it. I think you were expecting it to work like the newer printers
which do borderless 4x6 on paper without tabs. That printer can't even do
borderless 4x6. My Canon i560 can print borderless on 4x6, 5x7 and 8x10
papers without tabs. I still prefer the HP because the print quality and
longevity is much better.
