HP 6940 Ink Supply

About three weeks ago I got indications that the ink supply in both
tanks was low, yet I keep getting excellent results. Day after day.

Is HP telling me it is 'time' based on the actual ink supply, or it is
'time' based on the fact that I have been using the printer
(moderately) for almost five months and they want to give me a nudge?

How much advanced warning of no ink can one expect.

Incidentally, I do like the printer. Good photos and text. Oh, are the
cartridge refills at Office Max worth the price?

Thanks.

The low on ink indicator is based not on time but on the number of drops
of ink expelled, both from printing and servicing.  The warning is set
to make sure that virtually all users will receive the first warning,
while about half will receive a second warning.  You may continue to use
the cartridges until the ink is depleted.  The low on ink warning is to
allow you time to get a replacement to have on hand when the ink finally
runs out.

You might still have 20% of ink left at the first warning.

Thanks Bob. Makes a lot of good sense. And I'm still printing...and
have a drawer full of replacements.
