HP 5100C scanner problems

The HP 5100 scanner worked fine under win 98. Updated to
XP and it does not work (no changes in how the scanner
and printer were attached to the Gateway computer). Tried
the xp scanner software first. No go - it could
not "find" the scanner. Loaded the old software onto the
computer and the computer went into a "loop" - booting up
to a certain point and then stopping to reboot.
Disconected the scanner and the "loop" problem stopped.
Removed the old scanner software and attached the
scanner - the computer then goes into "loop" described
above. The HP website only offers an upgrade to the old
software not a new driver so you have to start with the
old software installed. Any suggestions on how to get
the scanner up and running?

OK. try the folowing:

1) Make sure that all software and drivers related to the scanner are
properly uninstalled (through add-remove programs etc)
2) Install the old HP software in the computer. DO NOT CONNECT SCANNER YET.
3) Download and install the update for Windows XP from HP site
http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/softwa...osoft Windows XP&sw_lang=en&pagetype=software

4) Restart the system
5) Shut down the system
6) CONNECT THE SCANNER
7) Start the system

Good luck :)
