HP 1210PSC

I am running Windows Xp Home and have a hp 1210psc. A few days ago the
limited users lost their ability to print although the administrator can
still print OK. All that happens when they try to print is the printing icon
(printer with paper in it) flashes then disappears and the document doesn't
print. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Most often seen with Norton, but to see if it's the same kind of problem, go
to the Control Panel and click on Printers & Faxes..... right click on the
printer and select Properties... in the Advanced tab, change the settings to
print direct to printer instead of using the spooler...

Can the Limited Users now print?

Yes but it's very slow to start printing.

Remove it temporarily and see if the situation with the printer changes. If
it does, then contact Trend Micro.

Did you try to System Restore to a point where printing worked for all
users?

Yes, using System Restore was one of the first things I tried but no matter
how far back I took it (we were unsure of exactly when we lost printing) it
didn't help. ANy other suggestions would be much appreciated as this problem
is becoming VERY frustrating and i want to keep the limited accounts so we
can use those to access the net and minimize potential virus damage.

Are there any system event log entries when limited users attempt to print.
If you see anything with error 5 it's access denied.

If the driver writes temp file make sure that where ever that location is
users have access.

Also verify that users have write access to \windows\system32\spool\printers

log on as user and copy a file to this location. The spooler typically
writes the data in it's security context but drivers can specify to create
files in the user context.

How do i check for system event log entries? No error messages occur on
screen when this happens.
