Howto use Volume Shadow copy w/a backup program?

I'm trying to use the equivalent of an "xcopy" (actually tar/cygwin) to
backup files, but it doesn't backup locked files like the registry
and such. The Shadow Copy Service is supposed to allow copying of
these files "somehow", but I don't exactly know how to tell it that
I want to use it's service...

Anywone else know how to have a backup program copy the "shadow" copies
to enable a full backup?

You could use EruNT (http://home.t-online.de/home/lars.hederer/erunt/)
for to backup the Registry.

Thanks, but the registry files aren't the only locked files and
I'd rather have my backups contained in 1 package.

I thought volume shadow copy was designed to permit backing up
of otherwise "locked" files.
