Large e-mails can sometimes cause issues with mail servers; especially if
your server has a mailbox quota that you're dangerously close to.

Try breaking those into multiple messages and/or compressing the
attachments to reduce their size.

An even better solution would probably be to use FTP or some kind of
shared webspace to transfer those files -- just post them on the
FTP/Website and send the recipients a link to download them.

It could also be your outgoing email scanning in your antivirus.

In addition to Ben's and Can-so's answers, it can also be a server timeout
value set too low. That's on the Advanced tab of your account properties
pages.

Ben,
thank you for your reply! that is a great suggestion however, i can send
the same size emails using outlook express on the same computer. i'm the
only one in the office that has this problem with outlook. Do you think
it's because i have a lot of folders set up with saved emails? thanks you in
advance, good day.

Did not work with Outlook 2007. I increased the time up to five minutes.
Anyone else have this same problem with 2007 and fixed it?

I have been having this problem for the past 48 hours, but have not upgraded
or changed security settings prior to problem occurring. All outward bound
emails stay in my outbox (size ranging from 182KB to 6MB) and for the first
24 hours kept resending. They have now stopped resending, but are sitting in
the outbox. All new emails send only once, but remain in the outbox. I have
tried using detect and repair, but to no avail. Prior to this I was
occasionally getting messages saying I could not delete messages or
appointments in calendar due to unknown error, but thi is now happeningg all
the time.

MIKE, HAVE YOU GOT YOUR PROBLEM SORTED AS I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH
OUTLOOK 2007. IF I USE MY PC IN SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING THEN THE MESSAGE
GOES TO SENT ITEMS BUT IN NORMAL MODE IT STAYS IN OUTBOX WHEN IT IS ACTUALLY
SENDING EACH TIME!

You have a problem with your keyboard. The Caps Lock key appears to be
stuck.

Since your problem doesn't happen in safe mode but does in regular mode,
it's apparent you have an add-in that is causing the problem. The problem
you describe is most often caused by an antivirus scanner configured to scan
outgoing messages. There's absolutely no need to do that. Disable the mail
scanner.

Brian,
You seem to have some experience along these lines. My problem is that I
have a database management program that sends emails through Outlook using
the Outlook contacts. The problem I have is that when I send multiple emails
(text only), they all hang up in the Outbox until I go in and send each one
of them individually. I'm going to increase my "time-out" to see if that
helps. Any other advice I can get would be very much appreciated!

I don't know much about the programmatic interface into Outlook and don't
really know what to tell you to examine. Perhaps asking in
microsoft.public.outlook.program_vba or .program_addins would be a better
group. You can also wait for someone else to answer here because I know
programmers read this.

Hi Brian,

I have switched off the outgoing mail scanner but I am still having problems
with mail staying in my outbox even though they have been received. It
appears that anything over 1mb stays in the outbox. Anything lower than that
moves to the sent box.

Any other ideas as if I dont delete them from the outbox they keep sending
to the recipients which I am sure they are not happy about.

Does it happen still if you stat Outlook in safe mode? Hold Ctrl when
starting Outlook.

They left the outbox in safe mode. I'll try what you have suggested and see
if that helps. Can't understand that they recipient is receiving them ok and
yet it says errors and couldn't be sent and stay in the outbox.

Thanks for your help Brian. I'll let you know if what you have suggested
helps.
