Insert | Symbol. Scroll to the Currency Symbols character subset and choose
character 20AC. The built-in keyboard shortcut is Alt+Ctrl+E.

On UK pattern keyboards the commands are ALTGR + 4 or CTRL+ALT+4 in addition
to the ALT+CTRL+E that Suzanne mentioned, so there are lots of ways of
inserting it. Not all fonts have a euro symbol and if like me you use an old
font (Zapf Humanst BT) as your preferred font for printed material, it can
create problems. In my case I used a font editor to add a euro character to
the font.

I have no idea what you mean by " the key to write symbol "€" is "5" ", but
the keystroke for typing the Euro symbol is Alt+Control+e. Alternatively you
can type the digits 0128 [Numeric Keypad] while holding the Alt key.

The symbol can also be inserted via the Insert> Symbol dialog (Word 2003 &
prior) or via the Insert Tab - Symbol Group on Word 2007's Ribbon.
Additionally, you can assign a keystroke of your choice or set it up as an
AutoCorrect item.

There may be some variation if you're using a different language version or
keyboard other than English. If that's the case post back with specific
details & someone will be able to direct you further.
