How to use Hotmail with MS Outlook 2002

A

AHMED

Hi there;

I want to use MS Outlook 2002 [Office XP] for send/rcv of Hotmail msgs.

So what do I put in at the "HTTP server URL" on the account properties?
The default URL in does not seem to be working, but it seems editable.

And what about Outlook Express 6, if there is a solutoin, is it the same
for Outlook Express 6? And what about MSN/GMAIL webmail srvr URL?

Thanks much in advance.

Unless you have either an old, free Hotmail account or the paid Hotmail
service you can't do this. MS decided to make free Hotmail accounts
created after a specific date, I forget what, inaccessible to Outlook and OE
(and other clients). Pay for the service and you should be able to get
details to set this up.

If you *do* have an old enough account, the HTTP server name is something
like this:
http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp

When you use the account creation wizard, you specify HTTP mail and use your
full Hotmail address.

the Hotmail pages should show you the details. Gmail pages also show you
the precise details for setup, and IIRC have a utility to configure OE for
you.

That would explain why mine might not have been a problem as mine is a
very old free account.

The very old free accounts are also being phased out.

It's not editable.

If you have a free Hotmail account, you won't be able to use Outlook or
Outlook Express to read it. You need at leah a Hotmail Plus account (paid).

I have heard that. In fact I heard that three or four years ago.
Nearly all my mail is off of the hotmail, but I like to keep it if for no
other reason that to use it for the times I suspect it will generate a lot
of junk mail, I also have a RoadRunner account.

AS people redo their machines and lose the old account connection, they are finding that they are now required to pay for Hotmail or MSN access.

Interesting. My machine had a burp about a week ago and I had to reload
windows and Outlook but Hotmail went right back in. I can also access it
from any machine via the Internet.
