How to Upgrade a NIC ?

B

Bob Day

I want to replace my current network interface
card with a new one. What is the best way to
do this? Should I shutdown and remove Windows
XP networking, remove the current NIC driver,
then the card, and then reverse that process to
install the new card ? Or, can I just replace the
current card with the new one and skip the other
steps ?

Almost. Control Panel> System> Harware> Device Manager> Network Adapter.
Click on adapter and remove. Shutdown PC remove old card and replace with
new card (assuming it is of the same type, i.e. PCI) MOST NIC's are plug and
play so just follow the directions that came with the new NIC. There should
not be a need to do anything with your networking settings.

Thanks much!
