How to uninstall signatures

Amazing!

Nice work--glad you persisted. I've never seen that listing for the
signatures so it was puzzling to me where it came from.

I hope this doesn't happen to many users, 'cause I'm not about to send most
folks into the registry to root around that way..

It's chancey, alright; and not something I'd want to advise for anyone
else, either. At this point, though, I'm now wondering if the whole
problem could have been averted if I'd used the
"Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}" command in Run
in order to remove the signatures *before* I uninstalled the Windows
Defender itself . . . ? Just a thought, but something I might want to
try if (when) I next uninstall my WD.

I have a Windows 2000 Virtual PC install which I've switched back and forth
a few times between Windows Defender and Microsoft Antispyware for testing
purposes--and I've not seen this straggler--but I wasn't looking for it
either... I think it wasn't there, though--so I suspect a good uninstall
shouldn't leave it behind.

I wouldn't think a *good* uninstall should leave it behind, either; but
the only thing I noticed *bad* about my uninstall was that it was still
there. However, my reason for uninstalling the WD in the first place was
the terrible time I was having getting it to update, which it never once
did properly for me, so that undoubtedly somehow had something to do
with it. Now, with this new installation today, I got a proper update on
my first try, so maybe my luck in that regard is turning.

They've made changes to the update system--at the far end of the pipe, as I
understand it. It seems much improved.
