After a failed (crashed half way) installation of a symantec
enterprise vpn on XP Pro, I have in the device manager 'Symantec
Enterprise VPN Client #3', and #4, #5 and #6. All four of these have
the exclamation mark against them.
If I select to un-install any of them then I get an information dialog
stating ;- 'Failed to uninstall the device. The device may be required
to boot up the computer.'
So I cannot get rid of any of them.
Can someone let me know how to get around this XP 'feature' and clean
this mess up ?

TIA

Suggestion 1: do a System Restore to before you installed the Symantec
app. Suggestion 2: if that doesn't work, contact Symantec tech support.

I have had the same error till yesterday (though with some imaging
device) and had been unable to find any answer on the net (suggestions
for uninstalling device driver in safe mode and similar did not work)
so I disabled that device, restarted WinXP from CD, selected «Setup
Windows XP now» and then pressed R to «Repair the selected Win XP».
After 10 minutes I was able to restart XP, no data, no applications
have been lost and then went through Device Manager and uninstalled
that device.
Cheers
